HOUSTON, TX – Momentum Machine Tool Company announces the release of their all-new MVL-10HD heavy-duty, ram-type vertical turning lathe (VTL), featuring 49-inches in swing and a 1005 mm (39”) diameter table. The MVL-10HD is engineered for heavy metal removal rates with features that include Momentum’s signature full-wrap, arc-shaped column, full-length cross rail, and single piece saddle, all of which combine to deliver superior rigidity and cutting performance. The MVL can be configured so that the ram and tool changer natively (i.e., without intermediate tooling blocks) accept CAPTO, KM, CAT or other standards, in capacities up to 60 tools..
The MVL’s cross rail extends fully to both sides of the spindle, 645mm (25+ inches) of travel in the negative X direction and 900 mm (35.4”) of Z-axis travel. This allows for easy access to probing part diameters as well as using left and right inserts on each turning tool holder, effectively doubling you tooling capacity.
The standard table on the MVL-10HD is 1,005 mm (39+ inch) in diameter and will both swing and turn up to 1,250 mm (49-inches). Maximum turning height is 900 mm (35-inches) and capacity on the table is 4,000 kg (8,800+ lbs.).
Weighing in at over 18,000 kg (39,000+ lbs.), all structural components on the MVL-10HD, including its base, column, and cross rail, are made from the highest-quality cast iron, which is stress-relieved for deformation-free performance year after year. All axis ways are of box-type construction, high frequency induction-hardened, and Turcite-B coated for wear resistance.
Like the rest of Momentum’s range of VTL’s, the MVL features a full-wrap, arc-shaped column which fully curves around the table to maximize mass, rigidity, and dampening. The full-wrap column also minimizes the distance between the column’s box ways and the cutting insert suspended from them. A single piece, extra-long cast iron saddle supports the ram during cutting, providing additional rigidity.
A 55/45 kW (73.7 HP) spindle motor is standard on the MVL-10HD, with a less powerful 45/38 kW, available as optional. Axis are driven by 7 kW (9.4 HP) servo motors providing 393.7 inches/minute rapids.
Optional CAT-60 with up to 30+ Tool ATC
The MVL can be configured so that the ram and tool changer natively (i.e., without intermediate tooling blocks) accept CAPTO, KM, CAT or other standards. These designs may also replace the horizontal-umbrella rotation style ATC with a vertical chain ATC and a side-arm tool-changer instead, reducing floor space and tool change time.
Momentum is an American-owned producer of vertical turning lathes (VTLs) and flat-bed lathes (FBLs) and maintains executive and technical offices in Houston. The company assembles all models in-house at its wholly-owns factory in Taichung, Taiwan.
